The city on the plate
A city built in two layers, powered by the Planet beneath it. Scroll down to descend from the plate to the slums.
Level 1
Midgar is built in two layers. On top sits the plate, a raised steel upper city where the wealthier residents live, its streets lit by power drawn from the Planet itself.
Eight Mako reactors stand around the rim, one between each pair of sectors, pumping the Lifestream out of the ground for the Shinra Electric Power Company.

Level 2
Beneath the plate the sky disappears and steel takes its place. The slums sit in that shadow, linked to the city above by train.
Early in the story Shinra drops the Sector 7 plate onto the slums below to crush AVALANCHE, and everyone living underneath.

Level 3
Life goes on down here anyway: Seventh Heaven in the Sector 7 slums, the noise of Wall Market in Sector 6, and in Sector 5 an old church where flowers grow through the floorboards.

The city in plan
Eight numbered sectors ring a central Sector 0, home of the Shinra Building. A Mako reactor stands between each pair of sectors. Point at a sector in the list to find it on the schematic.
